About ChartPort
ChartPort is a suite of software programs and utilities that add scanned
document management and scanning capabilities to NextGen EMR. With ChartPort's
"PaperPort to NextGen" link, you can scan patient documents (insurance
cards, referrals, test results) and store them
electronically in a patient-centric folder tree providing instant, shared
access. These scanned patient files are accessible from within NextGen by placing
a data grid on any of your custom templates, at which point they can be easily viewed or
printed by pressing a button on the template. A listing of scanned documents is
readily available by printing the information in the grid, using the NextGen
Document builder.
But what about the paper ?
As a NextGen
user, you know the benefits of electronic charting. But what about those
necessary bits of paper that still flow through the practice? We’ve grown so
accustomed to handling paper documents that we don’t realize the hidden cost
associated with information gathering from paper. Time is spent retrieving
paper documents, putting them back, hunting for them when someone else has
them, or copying them for others. Additionally, over time, large amounts of
physical documents accumulate, necessitating file cabinets and rooms to store
them. The more documents, the more expense is associated not only with
storage space but retrieval time.
Today’s obvious solution is to use the computer to access and
store documents from a central repository. Electronic document access is instantaneous. Files can be shared by multiple
users, copied, printed and transmitted all without leaving the desk.
Frequently, a document can be located and a copy sent while talking on the
phone, eliminating the need for a callback. And last but not least, electronic
backups allow complete restoration of vital information in the event of a
disaster.
